Explosive!

A Breton man spent four hours holding a rusty piece of metal he feared was an unexploded World War Two bomb that would detonate if he let go.

As police, fire and ambulance crews rushed to the garden where Jean-Paul had dug up the device, the terrified 45 year old spoke to an emergency operator on his mobile phone, newspapers said on Tuesday.

"The woman police operator kept saying it would be OK but I kept saying to her, 'You're not the one holding the bomb'," Jean-Paul said in his subsequent interview.

Jean-Paul, a father of four, sobbed to the woman operator:

"I told her to tell my parents and the children that I loved them if anything went wrong."

The drama ended when army bomb disposal experts turned up and told him the "bomb" was actually part of the pneumatic suspension system from an old Citroën.

I’ve finished banging on now.

For the day anyway.
