Scolt Head Island is approximately 4 miles (6.5km) long, a shingle and sand dune island on the North Norfolk coast. It is possible to walk across the sand and mud flats and wade across Norton Creek to reach the island from Brancaster Staithe harbour at low tide.
Care and common sense in checking tide tables are needed before embarking on a walk to the island so as to avoid being cut off by very fast incoming tides. A seasonally operated ferry is also available.
An important nature reseserve the island is closed to the public at certain times of the year in order to protect a thriving population of allegedly rare breeding birds.
